MOS are pleased to support Perry Racing in the EMRC Rookie class for 2014
I’ve always been very keen on bikes and have owned them in the past purely for road use. However a few years ago I decided to do a track day at Donington Park with a friend using my Suzuki road bike. I loved every minute of it and I even lapped my pal so I don’t think he enjoyed that very much. I then decided that it wouldn’t be a good idea to use my road bike so I converted it to a track bike and started to be a regular track day rider.
In 2013 I decided to apply for a race licence after being told by a few instructors at track days that I showed some promise and I was always able to run at the front of the fast group even though I was only on a 600. I purchased a race ready SUZUKI GSXR K4 600 which I instantly clicked with and started racing last year with EMRA. I finished second overall in the Rookie championship last year and was awarded the EMRA newcomers award, a title that has been won in the past by Tom Sykes (World Superbike Champion 2013) and Chris Walker (World Superbike and British Superbike rider) amongst others. It was a great start to my racing career and I was only beaten by a guy riding a BMW 1000 RR, which is arguably a more powerful and expensive bit of kit than I was on. I am determined to do better so I’m now in my second and final year as a Rookie and I’m also running in the Supersport championship where I’ll be competing against non rookies. I’ve just had a double win in the opening round of the Rookie race and it’s now on to Cadwell Park in April where I’m going to have to get a good start or those big 1000’s will have an advantage on the straights.
I’d like to thank Steve Mazurek of Mazurek Optical Services for his amazing generosity in sponsorship this year which will be such a great help. I will keep you posted with how the season goes and if anyone wishes to attend any of the races then visit www.eastmidlandracing.co.uk for more information.
